As you have been away for sometime start at 30% and stick to your guns, you can always go up but not down!

Yes, I've heard 30% is an reasonable starting offer, which on a £20k debt is £6k. I have about £5k saved up and could possibly get my hands on another thousans, so Im not too far off. If they dont accept that then I'll threaten bankruptcy, see if that works. Thanks

Hi Robert

I agree with Shocksoc, always go in with a lower offer and I would not be looking to borrow more unless I could possibly help it. Why not start of with an offer of 20% (£4k) and see what they say. Give them a financial statment showing you have little or not income and can not possibly afford more and they might well go for it. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks James, all great advice. I hope they will accept this settlement because I really dont want to go bankrupt. I'll let you know how I get on.
