Starting work during a dro period.
« on: Nov 16, 2010, 06:57:49 PM »
my brother has 3 months left to run on his moratorium period. He has just got a job earning about 14k a year.
He doesn't want to tell his dro officer as they could revoke it.
Will they find out if he doesn't tell them?

What ways could he legitimately raise his expenditure to reduce his monthly expendable income to less than 50 quid ?
i.e buy a car , he has just got the job so he could say he has to buy suitable clothes for work. etc...

Kind regards

Hi there Dave
If your brother's circumstances have changed, he should get in touch with his DRO trustee and let them know. He has a legal obligation to do this and if he doesn't he could get into trouble. The DRO is not going to be overturned, however, me might be asked to start paying something towards his debt. These payments could last for up to three years (as in bankruptcy).
Having said that, a salary of £14,000 will mean that he takes home c£965 a month as long as he has no student loans etc. If he can prove that he needs this to live on, then nothing will be taken. He should complete a new living expenses statement which he can show to his Trustee.
