Does anyone know what jobs are prohibited after you have become bankrupt?

The only one I am aware of is the police force. There may be others that similarly demand high levels of social responsibility.

I'm socially responsible. I didn't chose to have no work for months.

I am not too sure about this and i didn't actually know that jobs refuse you if you have been bankrupt. That has really put a downer on things for me now.

Aside from the police, how would they know? Have you ever been asked? It's not as if bankruptcy is a criminal offence.

FSA regulated positions.
Army you need permission from your CO
MOD - Need permission from your CO
Education - Cannot be the headmaster/headmistress
Education - Cannot be on the board of governers of a school
Police - Need permission from your superindendant
Security - For some high level security positions (like driving the van for securicor with all the money in!) you cannot.

This covers nearly everything I feel.

Oh and obviously you cannot be a director of a LTD company until discharged.

The only advice I would add to this is when applying for jobs after you have declared bankruptcy, you need to read the small print of any employment contract. If they ask you whether you have ever been bankruptcy or entered into an IVA, you must be honest.

A number of my colleagues who work in personnel are telling me that some employers are now checking the insolvency register before hiring some positions.

Some companies simply believe that trustworthiness and creditworthiness go hand in hand. They seem to believe that bad credit shows little responsibility and little regard for secrets. But remember that while employers can legally terminate or deny a job or promotion to those with bad credit, Section 525 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code prohibits discrimination based solely on bankruptcy.

Hi David

This forum is generally used by people in the UK with UK debt based problems. In the UK, an employer can certainly not simply terminate a job or deny a promotion for those in debt unless this is specifically indicated in the individual's employment contract and is deemed to be reasonable.

Interesting about the US bankruptcy code. I am not sure if there is anything like that in the English Insolvency Act but I would assume that the employment lawyers would have something to say about it :)
