Debts in the UK
« on: Jul 10, 2017, 09:35:16 AM »
Hello everyone,

I have a debt over 14k in the UK and I left the country back to Poland. I do not want to escape from this debt, but I am also unable to pay it off. I do not work. In the UK i was working in different places and the last month i had a self employment. Unfortunatley, the company for that I was doing some services, decided not to work with me anymore. So I was left with no income at all. I tried to pay some money off and till May i was able to pay on time, every month. Due to my situation, not living in the UK anymore, no work, I wanted to ask for any suggestion what should I do ? Is there any way that the debt can be written off ? What will happen, if I miss another few payment (missed all of them now, no income). The debt contains of personal loan and 2xcredit cards.

Thanks for all the help in advance.

Matt

Hi Matt

Do you own any assets?  Property, savings, land, vehicles etc etc?

Hello Lisa. Thank you for the reply.
No. I have nothing left. Not even a penny unfortunately.

I have been living and working in UK for over 8 years.

When did you leave the UK to go to Poland - was it over 3 years ago?

If you can prove you have lived/worked in the UK within the last 3 years you may still be able to apply for a UK insolvency procedure such as a Debt Relief Order or Bankruptcy in the UK to clear the debts.

I recommend you do some research on them first to decide whether they are the best option for you.

I'm afraid I cannot post any links on this forum.

Yes, I did some research already. The only problem for me is, that I would need to be in the UK for the whole procedure (application, interview etc.). But thanks for all the help. I will have to think about it and make a decision.

Applications are now online (although there may be a different procedure I am unaware of for you now residing outside the UK) and I suspect the interview could be dealt with over the telephone.

You would better invest in diamonds or gold I think.
That's indeed easy money, yeah!

It's  good idea not to escape because of debt. I would like to know what you have? Do you have property which you can sell and pay the debt you have.
