DEBT PAID DIRECT TO CLAIMANT
« on: Oct 26, 2012, 08:02:31 PM »
Hi,

I owe the council for a very old parking ticket. Its escalated through bailiffs to £350 after a failed appeal etc.

Today i thought i would try to pay it to the council and not the bailiff. I paid the council £82 on their website and the payment was processed and accepted. So the money being sought by the council is now paid.

So how does this effect the money the bailiff is after? I have done this with other debt collectors in the past where i have used automated payments systems to clear the debt and then the debt collectors have said "they should not accept it" and never bothered me again. Is it the same with bailiffs?

Please help...they are due back tomorrow!

This is a very interesting one pinshot. Did the bailiffs return? I would have thought that they would argue that the additional costs incurred in trying to recover the initial debt are justifiable and they can still try to recover these from you.
