Debt Collectors whilst bankrupt
« on: Jun 09, 2012, 10:48:44 AM »
I received a letter from a debt collection agency stating that there was an outstanding fine for an untaxed vehicle in my name. I have not had the vehicle for nearly two years which I had done a SORN notice for but no longer have the paper work. In addition to this I was declared bankrupt just over a year ago which I informed them of.
They have written saying that although I am bankrupt I still have to pay the fine. I doubt this is correct but what concerns me is I am due to be released from bankruptcy shortly, so will I be liable to pay the fine?
If anyone has some advice on how to deal with this I would be very grateful.

Hi chasdad
There are some debts that cannot be included in bankruptcy. These include some court fines and penalties. The fine you received for the untaxed vehicle would fall into this catagory so unfortunately you are still liable for this debt if it was legitimate and you were unable to get it overturned.
